Most of us start with a pretty simple picture in mind.

We want to create a place that gives us food, looks beautiful, and feels good to walk through.

Somewhere you can step outside, pick something fresh, and feel like the land is giving something back.

That’s the kind of life I was drawn to as well.

But the more I learned about growing food, the more complicated it all started to feel.

It became very easy to lose sight of what I wanted in the first place.

So I kept coming back to a simpler question: How do you build something productive and beautiful without turning it into another full-time job?

That question has shaped everything I’ve built since.

I spent five years running a no-dig market garden in France, then established a permaculture-inspired homestead in Portugal.

Now I’m creating a new garden in the Azores, continuing to learn what actually works through practice.

I created The Forest Gardener to make food growing feel simpler, clearer, and more doable, so you can build something that feeds you well without it taking over your life.

What we’re building here isn’t always polished, and it’s certainly not perfect, but it fits our life, and we’re genuinely enjoying the process.
